When I first moved to Melbourne as a wide-eyed 19 year old, I found myself living in St Kilda, somewhere that was only just beginning to gentrify at the time. Living just off Grey Street as I did, I got to see some of the local area's grim realities from the get-go. But at the same time I was also aware of the benevolent presence of the Sacred Heart Mission, right there in.. well.. the heart of it all.
Over the years I've admired the work that the Mission has done for people that are struggling and last year I had the opportunity to go along to their inaugural fancy celeb chef fundraising dinner, Dine With Heart.
Headed up by some of Melbourne's top chefs and held on the stage at the iconic Palais Theatre, it was a fabulous night and a really special fundraising event.
Since early 2015 I've been working with staff from the Mission, as well as hospitality industry heavyweights like Ian Curley (European), Chris Watson (Luxembourg) and Gail Donovan (Donovan's) to bring together this year's event.

DINE WITH HEART MONTH -- Running throughout the month of May in the Port Phillip and greater Melbourne metro area, Dine With Heart Month is a charity fundraising event that aims to raise $75,000 to continue the vital work of the Sacred Heart Mission's meals program.
Just by dining at a participating restaurant, you can help Sacred Heart Mission's meals program to provide a daily hot and nutritious three course meal for up to 400 people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage. Visit the SHM website for a full rundown of participating businesses.
DINE WITH HEART DINNER -- Chefs participating this year will include: Ian Curley (European), Chris Watson (Luxembourg, Cutler & Co), Daniel Wilson (Huxtable, Huxtaburger), Jesse Gerner (Bomba, Añada, Green Park), Derek Boath (Bayleaf Catering), Emma D’Alessandro / Adam Draper (Donovan's), Philippa Sibley (Ex-Prix Fixe), Sean Judd (St Hotel) and Themi Milikouros (Phamish).
