It's not every day I get invited to a breakfast event at a retirement village, but last week that's precisely what happened.
Providence is a stylish new cafe housed in the brand spanking new Australian Unity aged care facility in Carlton.
As far as cafes go it's a lovely one - the food is super fresh, seasonal, and it's all sourced and made with love (the chef is ex-Sarti), plus the fit out is bright and breezy and the team behind the project has a pretty solid track record for quality hopso projects (i.e. The Grain Store).
As far as retirement villages go? Hell, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing out my twilight years in this leafy pocket of inner-city Carlton, especially with the baths across the road and good coffee in the lobby.
Grandma or no, it's a worthy little addition to Rathdowne Street and to be honest, I reckon the whole senior cit's angle is actually a refreshing departure from the usual self-conscious, uptight hipster thing we're constantly bludgeoned with here in Melbourne. So yeah, it's a 'yes' from me.
